Questions plastic fabricators ask
Can WorkGuru handle one-off plastic fabrication?
Yes. Jobs do not need to repeat, and each custom project can be as simple or detailed as it warrants. Where something does come round again — a tank, a guard, a standard enclosure — the previous job gives you real hours and material rather than an estimate, and a template can hold the structure. One-off work is where estimating is hardest and job history is worth most.
Can we track different materials and stock?
Yes. Inventory manages stocked sheet, rod and components with issues recorded to jobs, while project purchases cover job-specific buying. The grade distinction is the one to keep clean: acrylic, polycarbonate, HDPE and PVC are not substitutes for each other commercially or technically, and a stock system that blurs them will misstate both your holding and your job costs.
Can we plan work around machines?
Yes, through Work Areas and scheduling. The practical benefit is delivery promises you can keep. Plastic fabrication often has a slow finishing stage — polishing, flame polishing, annealing — that cannot be compressed, and a schedule built on machining capacity alone will keep committing to dates the back end of the shop cannot support.
Can we track labour by task?
Yes, with time recorded against the job and its tasks. Separating machining from fabrication, welding and finishing is worth doing because they have very different rates of predictability. Machining is estimable from the drawing; hand finishing is not, and it is where the hours go. A single job-level figure will not tell you which stage is breaking your estimates.
Can we see material and labour against the quote?
Yes. Job costing brings the actual project costs together for comparison with the allowance, while the job is still running. For plastics the early warning usually comes from material rather than labour — a sheet ruined in forming is an immediate, visible cost — which makes the comparison useful from the first day of fabrication rather than only at the end.
