What is MCP? MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It’s an open standard, first released by Anthropic, that lets an AI assistant use a piece of software on your behalf. Claude, ChatGPT and a growing list of other AI tools support it.
Why it matters. Without MCP, an AI assistant can only talk about your business. With the WorkGuru MCP server, Claude can look things up in WorkGuru and take action, inside the rules WorkGuru sets.

AI help without handing over the keys
The WorkGuru MCP server was built around a simple rule: an agent should be useful without ever putting your data at risk.
Admins decide
An administrator has to allow a user to connect an AI agent before anyone can use it.
Never more access than you
You choose Claude’s read and write scopes, and they can never exceed your own WorkGuru permissions. If you can’t see financials, neither can Claude.
Drafts first
Quotes, invoices and purchase orders are created as drafts, so you can review them before they’re issued or sent.
Same rules, same audit trail
Actions use the same business logic, validation, status changes and audit trail as the WorkGuru app. There’s no shortcut path for AI.
What Claude can’t do
- Delete anything through a WorkGuru MCP tool. There are no delete tools.
- Delete through the WorkGuru API instead. Delete calls are blocked when we detect they come from an AI agent.
- See or change anything outside the scopes you granted.
- Skip the validation your team works to.

WorkGuru Claude integration questions
What is the WorkGuru Claude integration?
It connects Claude to your WorkGuru account through the WorkGuru MCP (Model Context Protocol) server, so Claude can access permitted job information and carry out supported tasks like drafting quotes, receiving purchase orders, logging time and preparing invoices.
Can Claude update records in WorkGuru?
Yes, where supported and where you’ve granted write access. Example actions include preparing draft quotes and invoices, managing purchase orders and recording time. WorkGuru’s permissions and validation rules still apply.
Can Claude delete WorkGuru data?
No. The WorkGuru MCP server has no delete tools, and the WorkGuru API blocks delete calls when it detects they come from an AI agent.
Does Claude get access to all our financial and job information?
No. An administrator must allow AI agent connections, and the agent’s read and write scopes can never exceed the connected user’s own WorkGuru permissions.
Can Claude send quotes or invoices to customers?
Yes, with the right write access. Quotes, invoices and purchase orders start as drafts, so you can review them before they’re issued or sent.
Does Claude follow the same rules as my team?
Yes. Actions taken by Claude go through the same business logic as the WorkGuru app, with the same validation, outcome and audit trail as an action taken by a person.
What’s the difference between the WorkGuru MCP server and the WorkGuru API?
The WorkGuru Public API is for developers building integrations in code. The MCP server is built for AI assistants: you describe what you want in plain English and the assistant chooses the right tool.
Which AI assistants work with WorkGuru?
Claude and ChatGPT both connect through the WorkGuru MCP server, and other MCP-compatible assistants can follow.
How much does the WorkGuru Claude integration cost?
The WorkGuru MCP server is free, and currently part of the WorkGuru Beta Program.
Is the integration available now?
Yes, Claude is live in beta. WorkGuru is adding customers to the Beta Program in batches.
